TOUR IN THE GREAT SOUTH FOREST

NATIONAL PARKS IN PERU

They are extremely important because they keep representative shows of the great natural variety of Peru and its ecological levels.


Into them, we protect in goodwill way the ecological integrity of one or more ecosystems and associations of wild animals, plants, landscapes and human culture, as well as their evolution.

In the National Parks It's forbidden to extract any natural resource for business or to establish any human occupation.

I'ts permitted just the entrance of scientific researches, teaching aims or cultural visits.
 
Nowadays, Peru has 29 181,792 square kilometers -   69 476,277 square feet ( the 2.27 per cent of the hole territory )

BASIC TOUR TO NATIONAL PARK MANU ( 8 days / 7 nights )

Manu is one of the two most important natural protected areas in the tropical forest of Peru, one of the most extended of South America with 20 thousand square kilometers and one of the great varieties of animals, plants and ecological levels in the world, almost completely not touched by human being.

These animals are some of the most rare and that are still here:

The Giant Otters, the Black Big Alligators ("Caiman"), Jaguars, Glasses Bear, Little tigers, 13 speces of monkeys and thousands sorts of birds.

With the 10 per cent of flora speces existing ( among them there are very fine wood trees ) and many others with medicinal properties.

 

1st day

We leave from Cuzco early and begin to pass by the Andes mountains ( like valleys )  visiting by the way pre-inca tombs.

Then, after passing by a rustic town, we arrive at Acjanacu gorge and begin to go down ( since 3850 m a s l - 12 628 feet a s l )

Since this point we begin to enter into the forestand to feel hot observing 

orchids, Bromelias, ferns,

 the Glasses Bear, and the Rocks Roosters, going down until a Lodge where we spend the night.

 

2nd day

Early, we appreciate the dance of Rocks Roosters since a kept cabin.  We have breakfast.

Then, we begin to go across the High Forest until Atalaya , at feet of the great "Madre de Dios" river at

700 m a s l - 2296 feet a s l .  Descending 15 minutes by the river , having the opportunity of passing by special

 geological formations, observing a great variety of  birds ( like herons , cormorants )  and taking 

bath into its pure water; until a private lodge between the High and Low Forests.  At this point It's

 just really hot.

*It's possible for experts, to descent since 1700 m - 5576 feet, up to 700 m a s l - 2296 feet a s l.

 

3rd day

We take breakfast and begin to go up 4 hours across the river , observing many kinds of birds like herons,

Martin fishermen, " rayadores", swallows,

 "flies catchers"; up to Boca Manu  town, where we have free time in the

 afternoon for spending the night, and where we decide if we take airplane to travel 45 min, or car; in order  to

 enter to the natural areas  ( the next day ).

 

4th day

We begin the trip up the river, passing near a "Collpa" of numerous kinds of parrots ( clay wall area where

 parrots taste this material ), afterwards we pass by a watcher control and then we begin to enter to the expected

 Reserve in 4 hours up to arriving at our choosen accommodation.

  By this trip we just observe a so big number of birds speces, turtles, big alligators ( "caimanes" ),

 mammals and really, the pure and vaste tropical forest.

Then, we have lunch and in the afternoon, we live the extreme wild tropical forest ( animals, plantas and live

 levels ), taking walks and talking about it.

 

5th day

Early, we wake up to take a walk in order to observe animals hunting, the big otters ( River mammals )

the big black alligators ( "Caimanes" ), the spider monkies, and numerous speces of plants and

trees.

Then we have breakfast, and begin to take the walk across the primary forest towards "Otorongo

lake" where there is a 15 m tower in order to appreciate the panorama ( with the the otters and so many kinds

 of birds.

Finally at night It's possible to use special lights to find the alligators.

 

6th day

We wake up early again for taking a short walk and then picking up everything to go by the river down ( by

 Manu river up to Boca Manu, point which is the origin of Madre de Dios river ), spending the night into

 the forest again, in Boca town.

 

7th day

At noon, we return to the airport for flying to Cuzco or we go up by the mentioned river to the first Lodge we visited

 ( one more night ).

8th day

Early, we continue by the river up to Atalaya, then we take the bus towards Cuzco and finally we take bus or airplane to Arequipa ( 10 hours or 30 min.) .

 

Recommendations for all tours:

Sleeping bag,

Bath affairs.

Confortable walking shoes.

Lantern and batteries.

Sun protections.

Good repellent insects ( more than 40% of deet ).

Waterproofs, long shirts and cotton pants, ( occasionally, warm clothes ).

Binoculers, small bag, plastic bags.

Water for the first day.
