Cotahuasi valley private tour 4 days / 4 nights

So recommended because, leaving early, in one way we begin the observation of a wonderful trip across the coast Majes valley  tour and a great variety of ecological levels ( other valleys, mountains,  towns, flora and animals ), between 600 m ( 1968 feet )- 4900 m ( 16072 feet ) above sea level.

1st day:

   *Beginning of the trip ( 9 hours ) at 8:00 p.m. from Arequipa, we descent to the desert coast, crossing the great green

    oasis irrigations and arriving at the green Majes valley , continuing the trip ascending by the Andes up to the

    extended  flat highland .  By the way we will pass by Chiquibamba, a typical Andes mountains village, in the

    middle of the range .  During the tour we will observe  two of the most importat peaks in America: the extinct

    Coropuna ( 6500 m.a.s. l. - 21320 feet a s l ) and its spring: Pallarcocha lake.

          And  Solimana mountain, to the west.

    *20:00 : As soon as we pass the highland, we descent 1500 m-4920 feet ( one and half hour ),

       to the lowest part of the canyon, until the capital of the province: Cotahuasi city ( 2600 m a s l - 8528 feet a s l )

      The photo on the left shows us the  important level down from the top of the mountain

      to the lowest parto of the valley; and also the main square of Cotahuasi. 

     Then we take the accommodation and a walk in Cotahuasi, wich seems to be in last years of the colonial time.

2nd day:

   *6:00 : Trip to Pampamarca district  ( 3140 m - 10299 feet a s l ) in two hours.

     We discover one of best works in wool and fiber in carpets.   We take a walk in this typical mountain  village, by a

     waterfall ( 80 m - 262 feet depth ), gealogical formations and views of deep valleys;  beginning to interact with local

     people.

  * Optional: We can take, since this town, an additional high ascent day,  crossing Pampamarca river and 

    a chain that divides this district with Huaynacotas ( full with many landscapes variations  and formations ) and

    spending one night in a village at more than 4200 m - 13776 feet a s l  .

     18:00 Return Cotahuasi and fun.

3rd day:

   7:00-8:00 Waking up and having breakfast.

   8:00-11:00 We begin the trip up along the valley, by the road that is parallel to the river and flanked 

      by the very high mountains ( 1500 m - 4920 feet high ); between the dry and the green all the time.  Look at 

      pictures down...

      We continue the trip up the canyon, passing by importantl towns like Tomepampa and Alca,  for arriving at the far

      Puyca village .    During this journey we interterchange with people and nature.

   *11:00-2:00 In Puyca, we visit Maucallacta, ruins from Wari culure ( pre-inca civilization: Vth-Xth

      centurys ), climbing a sloped path.

    Then we go down the mountain and  in the town we interact with people .

   * Optional ( 9:00 or 9:30 ): Trek in Alca. We could have another good opportunity of taking a short colorful

     archealogical walk (7 hours),  across pre-inca steps and landscapes.

          This  circuit is instead of going to Puyca.  Into these 7 hours, it's possible to visit Tomepampa .

   *2:00-3:30 Return by the same way and stop in Alca for lunch.  

   *3:30-4:30 Lunch

   *4:30-4:50 We go to the volcanic hot springs.

   *4:50-5:50 Relax

   *5:50-6:30 We go back to Cotahuasi, free time.

4th day:

   *7:00-8.00 Waking up and breakfast.

   *8:00 We begin the trip to the fantastic Sipia water fall ( 150 m depth ), by car and walking. 

     We always appreciate the ecological diversity .

   *9:30-10:30 Visit

   *10:30-12:00 Return 

   *12:00-2:00 Lunch 

   *2:00 Free time in Cotahuasi city and preparation for returning Arequipa .

Optional: Two days trek in Quechualla. It's possible on the 4th day at 6:00, taking the river down, passing by 

Sipia waterfall and descending across the lowest part of our great valley ( several natural elements like the cactus 

 and geographic contrasts  ).   We pass by the capital of this district for lunch, spending one night 

(Velinga: 1980 m - 6494 feet a s l ) and enjoy the warm water springs.

  *  17:00 Return to Arequipa city: relax, music and completly opened sky.

Recommendations for the three days: It's recomendable to go between april and november 

Sun protection ( cream, glasses...), water, comfortable shoes, camera ( batteries ),

protection for the cold, swimming suit, mosquito repellent.  To be prepared for the altitude sickness.

It's recommended for all these tours to have "change" for buying little things.
